Generational identity

Generation names describe shared formative conditions. They are analytical tools, not uniform personalities.

Formative context & media memory
NOT PROOF OF个人性格与消费偏好Personality or preference
Region, race & class
1928—1945

Silent Generation

Childhood or youth crossed the Depression, World War II, and postwar institutions. Radio, movies, newspapers, and early TV formed common media, but segregation, gender rules, place, and class divided experience.

1946—1964

Baby Boomers

The name comes from the postwar birth surge and has the clearest demographic boundary. Suburbia, television, Cold War, civil rights, Vietnam, and counterculture shaped very different members.

Era: Suburbia & television →

1965—1980

X 世代

Generation X

A smaller cohort grew amid dual-earner households, cable, malls, games, deindustrialization, and the Cold War’s end. “Latchkey” and “slacker” are media labels, not universal lives.

Era: Fragmented media →

1981—1996

Millennials

They grew as the internet became ordinary and entered adulthood around 9/11, war, education debt, and the financial crisis. Delayed housing or family formation cannot be reduced to taste.

Era: Networked life →

1997—2012

Z 世代

Generation Z

Smartphones, platforms, streaming, and algorithms were infrastructure during formation; the pandemic reshaped school and early work. Identity language and mental health are visible, but sweeping personality claims remain weak.

Era: Platform society →

2013—

Alpha 世代

Generation Alpha

This cohort is still in childhood or adolescence, and both its boundary and label remain unsettled. Touchscreens, games, online school, and generative AI matter, but fixed consumer-personality claims are premature.
