Regional frame
The Census Bureau divides the country into Northeast, Midwest, South, and West. This is useful for statistics, not a final cultural map. New England and metropolitan New York differ; Texas combines southern history, borderlands, Latino culture, and energy; California contains coastal metros, the Central Valley, and mountains.
Cultural difference often combines metro or rural settlement, migration history, economic base, and whether daily space is organized around walking, transit, or cars.
