Halloween

More than a religious remnant or children collecting candy, Halloween joins neighborhood ritual, costume, horror entertainment, and fall commerce.

01 · ORIGIN

Origins

U.S. Halloween is a layered result of Celtic seasonal traditions, All Hallows’ Eve, immigrant customs, and American community practice. Schools, neighborhoods, candy, film, and television made it a national fall moment.

02 · RITUAL

What people do

Children wear costumes and trick-or-treat; households carve jack-o’-lanterns and decorate porches. Adults attend costume parties, haunted attractions, or horror marathons. A lit porch commonly signals participation.

03 · SCREEN

Screen memory

Family titles such as It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown, Hocus Pocus, and The Nightmare Before Christmas coexist with horror classics such as Halloween. Annual rewatching can matter more than original box office.

04 · COMMERCE

Commerce and timing

Core categories include candy, costumes, pet apparel, décor, pumpkins, party goods, beauty, and horror entertainment. Seasonal attention often begins in September. General fall motifs are usable; specific characters and film assets require rights.
