Pew’s 2023–24 study finds 62% Christian, about 40% Protestant and 19% Catholic; 29% unaffiliated and 7% in other religions. Christianity remains influential as the country becomes more plural and secular.

03 · REGION

Regional difference

Evangelical visibility is stronger in parts of the South; the Northeast carries Catholic and Jewish immigration histories; Utah and the Mountain West hold Latter-day Saint history; major immigrant cities are often more plural. Region is context, never proof of identity.

Holiday boundary

Christmas and Easter have Christian origins but also secular, family, and commercial forms. Thanksgiving, Independence Day, and Mother’s Day are not Christian holidays. Religion and holidays should connect without becoming one category.
